No Warning: Steakhouse 71 at the Contemporary Closes for a Day, Reservations Cancelled
On September 6, Steakhouse 71 abruptly showed as closed in My Disney Experience and existing reservations were cancelled. Disney gave no reason. The restaurant is listed as open again for September 7.
Steakhouse 71 at Disney's Contemporary Resort closed without notice on Sunday, September 6, 2026. The restaurant appeared as closed in the My Disney Experience app, and several guests reported that confirmed dining reservations were cancelled.
Disney has offered no explanation. Speculation in the fan community points to a technical or maintenance issue, but none of that is confirmed. We are therefore running this as an update rather than as a refurbishment announcement.
Where things stand
The official calendar showed the restaurant as open again for Monday, September 7. No new bookings were available for the closure day itself. Anyone holding a table there in the coming days should check the status in the app before travelling.
Why this stings more than it used to
The timing is awkward. Since Disney tightened its resort-hopping rules in June 2026, a dining reservation has become the only dependable way for many guests to access the monorail resorts at all. A last-minute cancellation at the Contemporary therefore costs more than a dinner – it often removes an entire planned outing.
Steakhouse 71 has been one of the hardest resort table-service reservations to secure since it opened in 2021, which makes finding a short-notice replacement unlikely.
