Two Hours and Out: Slinky Dog Dash Breaks Down Again After Brief Return

Thursday morning looked like the end of it – Slinky Dog Dash reopened after three full days of closure. Roughly two hours later the coaster was down again. Disney still has not commented on the cause, and for guests the attraction remains anything but reliable.

The comeback did not last. On Thursday, September 3, 2026, Slinky Dog Dash at Disney's Hollywood Studios reopened in time for Early Entry after three days of full closure. By around 10:00 a.m. local time it was down again, and it had not returned to service by early afternoon.

How it got here

The run of failures began in late August with hours of downtime during operating hours on Friday and Saturday. The attraction then stayed closed all day from Monday, August 31 through Wednesday, September 2. The trigger was a train that came to a stop at the coaster's second launch and remained visible out on the track. Photos also showed an open electrical panel nearby – a hint at electrical work, but no confirmation of the cause.

Weather doesn't explain it

A storm moved through the area on Thursday, which would have been the obvious explanation. According to consistent on-site reporting, however, the coaster went down before the weather hit. Adverse conditions alone do not account for the second shutdown.

Disney has issued no statement on either the cause or a timeline. Cast Members have been unable to give waiting guests a reason or an estimate.

What guests should do

Slinky Dog Dash is among the highest-demand attractions on the entire Walt Disney World property and a fixture of any Hollywood Studios plan, whether via rope drop or Lightning Lane. The current pattern – brief operating windows followed by sudden closures – makes it a genuine planning risk.

Practical advice for the coming days: check the attraction's status in the My Disney Experience app first thing in the morning before committing to a walk over to Toy Story Land. Guests holding a Lightning Lane selection they cannot redeem because of downtime should speak to Cast Members at the attraction, as a substitute is usually offered in these situations.

No scheduled refurbishment had been announced for this window. Whether this is an unfinished repair or a recurring technical fault remains unclear.
