Closing Completely: Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel Shuts October 12 With No Reopening Date

The flagship hotel at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is going in for a full renovation. From October 12 the Victorian property closes entirely, with guest rooms to be rethemed around Disney films. When it comes back, Disney still will not say.

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is about to undertake its largest hotel project since the resort opened. The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel closes completely for refurbishment on Monday, October 12, 2026, with the final check-in set for October 10.

The resort announced the closure in late July 2026. What is new are the details and framing Disney added in early September.

What changes

The 2005 property is built in Victorian style and is often described as the Asian counterpart to Florida's Grand Floridian. That architectural character is to be preserved. The interiors are what change: guest rooms will be rethemed around Disney films, with Disney describing "immersive story experiences, innovative design and better service."

Beyond that, specifics are thin. The resort has published nothing on the number of rooms affected, the cost, or the structural scope of the work.

What closes with it

The shutdown covers the whole property, dining included. Going offline are:

  • Crystal Lotus – the hotel's Chinese restaurant
  • Walt's Café
  • Enchanted Garden Restaurant – known for its character breakfast

A complete hotel closure is rare in the Disney world. The nearest recent comparisons are the full refurbishments of the Disneyland Hotel and Disney Hotel New York at Disneyland Paris.

Preliminary work was already under way

The move is not entirely sudden. Work on the building's west side has been running since June 2026, on weekdays between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Guests reported obstructed views and intermittent noise and odour during that phase, though core facilities stayed open.

Where guests go instead

The resort points to its two remaining hotels: Disney Explorers Lodge with 750 rooms and Disney's Hollywood Hotel with 600. Both are expected to absorb demand – the resort says each ran above 80 percent occupancy through the recent summer holidays.

That is the real issue for travellers. Removing the third property meaningfully shrinks the resort's room inventory while the remaining hotels are already filling up. Anyone planning from October onwards should book early and watch the rates.

How existing reservations past October 12 will be handled has not been explained publicly; affected guests should contact hotel guest services directly. Accompanying hotel offers have been communicated to Magic Access annual pass holders.

The resort's framing

Anita Lai Pui-shan, vice-president of communications, presented the project to the South China Morning Post as an investment in competitiveness, saying the renovation will help "consolidate Hong Kong Disneyland's leading position in regional tourism."

That fits the pattern of recent years. The resort has invested heavily with World of Frozen and other expansions, and faces regional pressure – not least from Shanghai's expansion plans and the new projects in Tokyo.

Grand Floridian Cafe Returns November 2 – Reservations Already Live Four months after closing, the Grand Floridian Cafe finally has a date. Walt Disney World's flagship resort restaurant reopens on November 2, 2026, and dinner reservations are open now.
